When we talk about New Media, we quite rightly think about the Internet and all its derivative components. I'm reminded of Lance Armstrong's bestselling book "It's Not About the Bike," that there are layers to it all. Likewise with New Media, it's not all about the Web.
Before you lay out a New Media strategy encompassing a kick-butt Web site, an interesting ezine, engrossing blog and stimulating podcasts we must start at the beginning.
Commitment: Some people get excited when starting a blog, ready to send out profound thoughts into the world, then run out of steam. It doesn't have to happen though, not when you make time on your schedule and commit.
Investment: Who said marketing on the Web is free? The word, FREE! is the buzzword on the Internet. Sure you can find lots of useful free stuff, but when it comes to your New Media marketing you want a professional -looking Web site, blog and great sounding podcasts, not to mention subscribing to an ezine provider like constantcontact or if your Web host provides one. We recommend WordPress.org as the best professional blogging platform -- and wonders, it's free! Typepad and others are used by many -- for a fee. But it's not just the investment of money that I'm talking about it's your time and energy too!
Consistent: I'm sure you've heard the wail, "But no one's reading my blog" from a fellow blogger, or maybe you're thinking that way too. Take heart, don't give up. Consistently market to your niche and be patient.
So, you see, even though your Web site, blog, ezine and podcasts are all dependent on the Web to succeed you must start at the beginning: Commitment, Investment and being Consistent. These qualities are the characteristics of a winning mindset that's not all about the Web.
